'Dortmund rivalry will make Bayern better' - Oliver Kahn

The former Germany captain feels that the increased competition will bring the best out of his old club, claiming it will make make them 'stronger' in the long run

Dortmund are on the verge of clinching their second successive Bundesliga title and can complete a double if they defeat Jupp Heynckes' men in the DFB-Pokal final next month.

On the face of it, these are worrying times for Bayern, but Kahn feels that Dortmund's dominance will not last as it will provoke Die Roten into a reaction.

Oliver Kahn believes that the re-emergence of Borussia Dortmund as a major force within the Bundesliga is actually a positive for Bayern Munich, stating that it will bring the best out of the Bavarians.
"Competition means that you are always being asked questions and that you will never be allowed to get sluggish or lazy," the legendary goalkeeper told Sport Bild. "In the medium term, Dortmund will make Bayern stronger."

Dortmund all but clinched the title with a 1-0 victory over Bayern at the Westfalenstadion last week - their fourth successive victory over their great rivals. As a result, Kahn is tipping Dortmund to record a domestic league and cup double.

"I have my doubts whether the Bayern players can deal with [the latest defeat] positively, and that they may lose a fifth game in a row," the former Germany captain reasoned.

Bayern currently trail Dortmund by eight points with just three rounds of the season remaining.
